Fossil Lake Quarry Trail

Fossil Butte National Monument was
set aside to protect a portion of a unique
geological formation. The fossils found
here reveal the story of a sub-tropical
lake environment that differs from
today's high cold desert. Comparing
past and present environments
illustrates how the earth changes
over time.

The one-mile round-trip trail leads
through the high desert and the
aspen groves at the base of Cundick
Ridge, providing opportunities to
observe plants and wildlife.

Collecting of any object is prohibited
in the monument.
